Why Ben Shelton wants to skip the Olympics

Ben Shelton has said that should he fulfill the requirements, he most likely will not compete because the US Open starts at the same time as the Olympics in Paris.

Ben Shelton has stated that, if he meets the criteria, he will probably not attend given that the Paris Olympics overlap with the beginning of the US Open swing.

Shelton stated that the scheduling made competing in the Olympics unappealing for a player like himself; however, he hasn’t decided on the tournament just yet.

According to the young American’s current plans, he wouldn’t be staying in Europe after Wimbledon.

Shelton expressed his thoughts recently and said: “Yeah. I thought about it a lot. I’d say now I’m leaning towards not going this year if I were to make it. I think it’s tough on the tennis schedule this year. I’ll be in Europe for two months leading up to Wimbledon and then, you know, I want to prepare and get ready for the US Open. So having to go back to Europe to play on clay, a different surface, you know, kind of messes up a few lead-up tournaments to the US Open that I would play if I wasn’t playing the Olympics.”

Shelton expressed his desire to compete in the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. He further added: “But, you know, 100% I would want to play in LA in 2028, which is on the same side of the world as the US Open and on the same surface but I guess we’ll just see. Who knows what will happen this summer?”
