After Corentin Moutet defeated him 7-6(5), 7-6(3) in their quarterfinal match at the Chile Open in Santiago, home favorite Nicolas Jarry had a few comments to say to the Frenchman.
After defeating Jarry in front of cheers and shouts, Moutet had a stressful moment when he shook hands with Jarry at the net.
Moutet said after the match: “He said ‘pathetic’; I don’t know why. I behaved well. There were so many people against me, booing and making noise when I was serving. So I think I didn’t do anything ‘pathetic’. I think I survived well. I played well. You should ask him why he said that. We are not exactly best friends on tour; I don’t know him well.”
At the press conference, Jarry remained quiet on the situation, although Moutet expressed disappointment with the crowd’s behavior. Despite the 25-year-old tennis player’s request for a minute to talk, fans booed him off the court and made it difficult for him to speak during the on-court interview.
Moutet explained: “It’s unfortunate because there was not a pleasant atmosphere. I like playing in Chile because of the quality and in all my matches, they supported me because I opened my heart, gave a lot to the people, and shared with them. Sport is made for that. My coach and my family are here; I know what I did right or wrong and today I did everything right.”
