Daniil Medvedev paid tribute to the great player and called him an inspiration after Andy Murray announced that he would soon be retiring from tennis.
Following his second-round departure from the Dubai Tennis Championship on Wednesday, former world No. 1 Murray addressed this, saying he had had enough of the rumors that had been going around for weeks.
Murray expressed his thoughts recently and said: “I mean, I’m likely not going to play past the summer. You know, I get asked about it [retirement] after every single match that I play and every single tournament that I play, and I’m bored of the question, to be honest. And yeah, I’m not going to talk about that more between now and whenever the time comes for me to stop. But yeah, I don’t plan on playing much past this summer.”
Naturally, the compliments have begun to pour in. Medvedev has lauded Murray’s sense of humor and his ability to compete against the likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer.
Medvedev stated his remarks about Murray and said: “First of all, he’s a fun guy, a great guy to be around. That’s always a great quality of life. For sure, he’s an inspiration of mine because I remember when I was just going up the rankings; that’s the moment when he was winning the Slams, playing finals against Roger, Rafa, and Novak. So the ‘Big Four’.”
He added: “It’s going to be sad when he retires. Even I’m not sure that he’s going to stop this year. Wimbledon is a big tournament; maybe Wimbledon and then stop. But while he’s here, it’s going to be fun. When he’s not here, I’m sure he’s going to find a good spot in his life after tennis.”
Daniil Medvedev says Andy Murray is a warrior & he will find a good place in life after tennis:
"My memories… Well, first of all, he’s a fun guy and a great guy to be around. So that’s always a great quality in life. Then for sure, he’s an admiration of mine.”
