After being off the ATP Tour for more than a year, Latvian Ernests Gulbis made his official retirement from tennis public on Sunday.
The 35-year-old, a former member of the top 10, reached his career-high point in 2014 with a run to the semifinals of Roland-Garros. Gulbis defeated Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych on his way to losing to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, marking his best-ever Grand Slam performance.
Gulbis has won six ATP Tour-level matches, taking home victories in Delray Beach, Los Angeles, St. Petersburg, Marseille, and Nice.
But for Gulbis, whose ranking has fallen sharply from his 2014 peak, the last ten years have been difficult. The former Grand Slam semifinalist declared his retirement this past weekend after more than a year of absence.

WLWLWLWW Currently the world no.893, the Latvian played his last match on the 4th of February 2023 when he beat world no.473 Daniel Cukierman 6-1 2-6 7-6(2) in the Rubber 2 of the Davis Cup (draw).
Presently, during this year the Latvian owns a compiled 5-3 match record.
