Emma Raducanu defeated Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the round of 16 at the Abu Dhabi Open.
After a slow start, the 21-year-old turned things around to win 10 of the previous 11 games and set up a match with Ons Jabeur in the next round. Following her victory against Shelby Rogers in the first round of the Australian Open last month, Raducanu put up another impressive performance.
Bouzkova was surprised by Raducanu’s aggressive tactics when she rallied from an early break to win the opening set by winning four games in a row. In the second set, she maintained her lead to secure another positive victory, and there was no turning back.
Raducanu expressed her feelings after the match and said: “I think in the beginning I was just adjusting to the speed of the court. I hadn’t played on this court this year yet. It was pretty quick and also a lot more still than it had been for the week because it’s been very windy, so it was a different tempo.”
She appreciated Bouzkova later and said: “Marie is a really tough opponent. I knew that going in I was going to have to play so many balls and I think in the beginning I was missing a few of the finishing shots, but I cleaned that up so I’m very happy about it.”

Bouzkova is scheduled to play next in Doha (Qatar TotalEnergies Open). She will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 12th of February.
