Paula Badosa is once again struggling with the same issue after being forced to leave her Hua Hin round-of-16 match midway through due to a back injury.
When Badosa approached the net and shook Diana Shnaider’s hand on Wednesday, she was leading 4-3 in the second set after trailing 0-1 in the first. Badosa had been limping on the court for the last several games, clearly having trouble with something.
After suffering a spinal stress fracture in Rome last May, Badosa played in just one more tournament for the rest of 2023. Badosa made a comeback to action at the beginning of this season, having missed nearly all of the second part of the 2023 campaign. Unfortunately, Badosa’s back issue occurred a month after her return. It’s unclear how serious this is and when Badosa will be able to resume her routine.
The tournament posted on its Instagram account: “Unfortunately, Paula Badosa had to retire due to a lower back injury. Get well soon, @paulabadosa!.”
