Following his victory in the 2024 Australian Open, Jannik Sinner’s head coach, Simone Vagnozzi, gave the Italian’s parents excellent reviews.

In the Melbourne major final on Sunday, Sinner overcame Daniil Medvedev after trailing two sets to one. In three hours and forty-four minutes, he won 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena to secure his first Grand Slam victory.

Sinner specifically mentioned his parents in his on-court remarks following the victory, highlighting their significance to his career.

Vagnozzi was questioned later on at a press conference about Sinner’s mother Siglinde and father Johann’s influence. In an age when everyone had a few ideas and strategies to share because of the internet, the 40-year-old claimed that they never interfered with the coaching and were always a silent presence.

Vagnozzi expressed his remarks about Sinner’s parents in a recent interview and said: “If we have to speak about the parents, the parents of Jannik are wonderful, really wonderful. Sometimes they come to the tournament and do not say a word about tennis. They are just there. They enjoy the life of the tournament but never come to us and say, Oh, you know, the serve, the volley, the breakpoint. And right now, it’s not easy to find some kind of family because, with YouTube, everyone is a coach. Especially in Italy.”

Vagnozzi added that Sinner’s actions on the court clearly show their positive impact on him.

He further added: “We are really lucky to have one family to back him like this. With the education that Jannik has, which you see every day on the court, the racquet never goes down one time. It’s really quiet. I think the Italian is a really good example to have.”

Sinner said earlier in an interview: “I wish everyone could have my parents because they always let me choose whatever I wanted to, even when I was younger. I also did some other sports and they never put pressure on me, and I wish this freedom was possible for as many young kids as possible.”
