Emma Raducanu is back in practice after making a good comeback in the first month of 2024. In her first matches since exiting the sport in April of last year to undergo both wrist and ankle surgery, the 2021 US Open champion performed admirably.

She played at a good level against Elina Svitolina after winning a tough first-round match in Auckland, where she made her comeback to competition.

She told reporters that she was quite optimistic about what was ahead after leaving Australia. She said: “There were doubts whether I would be able to make the Australian Open trip, so it was a bonus to play there. As I said before, I’m more focused on the level and the practice days, trying to win the day rather than focusing more on win or loss. I know the difference between me playing okay and me playing good or me playing great is just really, really in the details, like doing a few things just 5% better. I think it makes a huge difference. I’m feeling very positive. I just want to play a full season.”

She also said she would be open to playing lower-level tour events, like ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments, the level below the WTA Tour.

She would not be able to enter Grand Slam competitions or top WTA 1000 tournaments with just that ranking, but she is listed on the Indian Wells Masters entrance list, which is scheduled for early March.

Her decision to accept a wildcard into the WTA 500 event in Abu Dhabi will see her return to play in the first week of February. She has also stated that she would like to attend a tournament before that. She is listed as an entry for the WTA 250 tournament, which is scheduled to begin on February 26 in Austin, Texas.
