Serena Williams has dream start

What a lucky day for Serena Williams.

The world no.1 is chasing the Grand Slam in New York and the first day could not have been better.

The opener

Serena had the easiest (and best) possible opener as her opponent Vitalia Diatchenko had to retire after 30 minutes after she was 6-0 2-0 down for injury (it was clear from the beginning the Russian couldn’t really move).

The best surprise

Besides a very easy opener that helped a nervous Serena to release some tension without wasting too much energy, the American has been blessed for the fact that 3 top (and very dangerous) players that were on Serena’s path crashed out in the opener. So Serena will not have to face anymore Sloane Stephens (she was in good form and possible rough 3rd round), Karolina Pliskova (possible quarter) and Ana Ivanovic  (possible semi).

Next vs. Bertens

Serena will play Kiki Bertens in the second round. This is the first time they play each other, but you already know who is the favourite.

6 to go…

GOOD START…
