Carlos Alcaraz Talks In An Interview

Carlos Alcaraz has explained his choice to skip participation in any tournaments before the Australian Open in 2024.

Alcaraz lost in the semifinals of the ATP Finals to end his 2023 campaign. While the world No. 2 took part in many exhibition events during his pre-season preparation, defeating Novak Djokovic and Roberto Bautista Agut in back-to-back events, he chose to miss all warm-up competitions ahead of the Australian Open.

The 20-year-old revealed at a pre-tournament press conference that he decided to take a vacation and relax after a demanding season.

Alcaraz expressed his thoughts in a press conference and said: “Well, we end the season so, so late. I prefer to take a holiday and have days to recover my body and mind as well. I prefer to do a really good pre-season.”

He added: “I think we discussed with my team, as well, that we need almost four to five weeks of pre-season to prepare well this season for the first Grand Slam of the year. We have no time if I want to play a tournament before the Australian Open. In the end, we preferred to come here to the Australian Open, straight to a Grand Slam.”

Alcaraz defended his decision by stating that he is prepared to do well in Melbourne and that he is confident in his abilities to compete without requiring a lot of competitive action.

He concluded his discussion and said: “Yeah, I think I’m a guy who doesn’t need so much competition before a big tournament. Always help. I think I’m prepared to do good things here in the Grand Slam.”
