Serena Williams and Simona Halep will play the final in Cincinnati.
Serena Williams
The American had a smooth match against Elina Svitolina. The world no.1 had a dominating performance in the semifinal after a false start (she was 0-2 down in the opener) to win 6-4 6-3. Match Stats.
An elated Serena commented “It’s my third final in a row here, and it feels good to be back in the final. She was playing so well today, so I just tried to stay focused and stay aggressive, and I’m happy I won. To be honest I’m happy just to still be in the tournament. It’s really exciting for me.”

Simona Halep
The Romanian gets her back to back final (she lost in Toronto 1 week ago after retiring for fatigue). Simona had a smooth sail in the semis to dispatch Jelena Jankovic 6-1 6-2 in just 68 minutes. Match Stats.
Simona commented “I played a good game tonight and really enjoyed myself out here, and I’m very happy I can play the finals again for the second week in a row. And the crowd was amazing – so many people were here this late, which is great!”
After this tournament Simona will get back her 2nd spot in the rankings.
Head to head
Head to head is 5-1 for Serena that was trashed last year 6-0 6-2 by Simona (before she trashed back Simona). The American is the hot favourite for the title.
