Paula Badosa Provides Injury Update

Paula Badosa had a disappointing 2023 tennis season, but there is relief that she is gradually getting back to full shape in time for the next campaign.

With only one appearance at Wimbledon, where she won one match before pulling out due to injury midway through her second-round match, Badosa was unable to participate in three of the four Grand Slams this year.

Despite missing the first part of the season due to an injury and having a stress fracture in her L4 vertebra interfere with her second half of the campaign, the Spaniard played 27 games overall.

After a lengthy and difficult recovery, Badosa eventually made her way back to the court in Abu Dhabi to participate in the World Tennis League exhibition.

Despite playing only women’s doubles with friend Aryna Sabalenka and mixed doubles with boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 26-year-old believes she is getting close to being fit for the 2024 season.

Badosa expressed her thoughts in a recent interview and said: “It’s been tough months for me and after struggling a lot, I am finally on the court and I can say I’m healthy. I’m feeling good and looking forward to next year. I’m getting there. I think I’m 80% fit but it’s already a big improvement because a month ago I wasn’t able to step on a court. I think I’m getting there.”

She added: “This tournament has helped me a lot because it’s the first time I am back on the court after many months out. So for me being able to play even if it’s doubles, because I have to start slowly, to be able to play with the best players in the world, it’s very good for me and it’s a big test.”
