Iga Swiatek makes record after winning consecutive WTA Player of the Year award

The first woman to win WTA Player of the Year for two seasons in a row is Iga Swiatek. Swiatek, who originally won the award in 2022, has been given it again after adding six titles to her record and taking back the top spot in the world rankings.

Iga Swiatek Wins The Player Of The Year Award

Iga Swiatek is the first female winner of the WTA Player of the Year title in consecutive seasons since 2015’s Serena Williams. After adding six titles to her record and regaining her position as the world’s top player, Swiatek, who first won the award in 2022, has been awarded it again.

These victories include a third Roland Garros title, a Beijing WTA 1000 title, and most recently, the Cancun WTA Finals, which concluded the year.

Consequently, Swiatek concluded the season with an 86% win percentage and thanked the WTA for acknowledging her efforts. She said after winning the award: “Thank you for this acknowledgement and recognition. See you soon!”

Currently ranked no.1, the Pole played her last match on the 6th of November when she beat world no.5 Jessica Pegula 6-1 6-0 in the final in Cancun to win her 17th career title.
