Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam winner, continues his pursuit of Jimmy Connors’ all-time record for the most singles titles won during the Open Era. Connors, with 109 trophies, currently holds the coveted position, and Djokovic, with his recent victory at the Paris Masters, has brought his tally to 97, placing him six titles behind Roger Federer in second place.
The question on many tennis enthusiasts’ minds is not if but when Djokovic will surpass Connors’ record. Even Connors himself acknowledges the inevitability, predicting that when Djokovic achieves this milestone, it might take another century before it is surpassed again.
Speaking on the Advantage Connors podcast, the tennis legend expressed both admiration and a touch of skepticism, stating, “My 109 has stood for a long time. If somebody passes me, you better be pretty freaking good. If that happens, on you go.” Connors highlights the rarity of consistently winning tournaments, emphasizing that to break the record, a player would need to win seven or eight tournaments every year, and possibly more in a standout year.

Presently, during this year Djokovic has achieved a 51-5 win-loss record. Novak has won 6 titles in 2023 in Adelaide, Australian Open, French Open, Cincinnati, U.S. Open and Paris. The Serbian was the finalist in Wimbledon.
