Jack Draper has been hailed as the future of British tennis in advance of attempting to win the largest payout of his professional career at the UTS Grand Final in London next month. The British No. 4 player, though, is just two victories away from winning his first ATP Tour title at this week’s Sofia Open.
Draper will participate in the T20-style exhibition match at the ExCel Arena alongside fellow wildcards Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, and Gael Monfils. Coach Patrick Mouratoglou invented UTS tennis, which features faster matches in four eight-minute quarters played in front of loud spectators. Also, Draper wants his fans to choose his titles for the occasion.
The Davis Cup player has earned $1,769,400 in his career and $684,337 thus far this season. He advanced to the fourth round of the US Open in September. He will receive $922,000 if he wins all five of his matches in London from December 15–17. Although Mouratoglou insisted that Draper is also destined for the top, he does have the same star quality as the younger Emma Raducanu and has also had injuries stall his early career.
Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, stated his remarks about Draper and said: “We’re excited to have Jack involved. We really wanted to have a British player and I’m excited that it’s Jack because he’s the future of British tennis and he is probably the young player who has the biggest potential for the future. He has huge potential. He has a big game, and he has shown this year that he’s on the way to the top of the game, to the top 10 and then we’ll see everything is open.”
