Coco Gauff said that her viewpoint on the WTA Finals has evolved since she participated in the event for the second year in a row, finishing her best ever in the semi-finals.

Gauff Talks About Her Wta Finals Campaign

After competing in the WTA Finals, Coco Gauff acknowledged that her perspective on the event has now changed. For the second year in a row, the teenager participated in the championship event and reached the semi-finals.

After the four Grand Slams, the end-of-year tournaments are considered the biggest event on the sporting calendar. Gauff, who is in Cancun for the 2023 WTA Finals, stated that although she still wants to win the majors more than any other trophy in the sport, she now values the event more than she did in the past.

Gauff expressed her thoughts about the event and her aspirations and said: “It would be cool to win it. To be honest, as a kid, I always dreamed of winning Grand Slams. I think as I’ve grown as a pro on tour, I’ve learned more about what the WTA Finals are about. I’d definitely say that would be a goal of mine now, after competing in it for 2 years and realizing this is the best of the best.”

She further added: “I do think I can improve. It would definitely be a dream. If I had to choose, I’d rather win another Slam. But it’s definitely a dream. I think this tournament is one of the most challenging. Not only because it’s the Top 8, but because it’s the end of the season.”

Like all of the other players, Gauff had to deal with nonstop rain during the tournament, which significantly impacted her serve. Gauff only prevailed in three sets against her doubles partner Jessica Pegula in the round of sixteen before she was eliminated from the WTA Finals.

With the victory at the US Open, Gauff’s first major title wrapped up an incredible season. In addition to winning titles in Cincinnati, Washington, and Auckland, she concluded 2023 with a career-high ranking of third.
