The 2023 WTA Finals' play quality has drawn criticism from Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina due to the windy conditions in Cancun, Mexico.

Sabalenka Talking In An Interview

Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina have voiced concerns regarding the impact of Cancun, Mexico’s windy weather on the 2023 WTA Finals’ play quality.

The year-end championships have been stuck in controversy because of the stadium’s construction delays and the windy, difficult weather that has bothered the players during practice.

Prior to the start of the competition on October 29, the Belarusian admitted that the weather in the coastal Mexican city was not ideal. She did, however, also convey her resolve to play tennis to the best of her abilities.

She stated her remarks during a pre-tournament press conference: “Well, I’m trying my best to adapt to these conditions. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll play my best tennis. But yeah, I mean, we all in the same conditions. It’s not easy one. It’s not the perfect conditions for the WTA Finals. But it is how it is. I’ll do my best to show my best tennis here.”

She added: “I’m not happy that we couldn’t practice on the match court, meaning like on the stadium. I think this is not the level for the WTA Finals. We literally have one hour today, like 45 minutes, to try the stadium. This is something I’m not happy with. I’m pretty sure the rest of the players are also not happy. At the same time, yes, I know we’re all in the same conditions. But this is not conditions for the WTA Finals. So it’s not great.”
