Stan Wawrinka recently expressed frustration with the ATP for allegedly ignoring players’ concerns about the frequent changes of balls on the tour.

Wawrinka, a former World No. 3 seed, lost his opening match in straight sets, 3-6, 6-7 (8), to Alexander Shevchenko at the 2023 Swiss Indoors Basel. A number of players, most notably world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, have criticized the ATP in recent months for switching balls during the various tour events, citing a higher risk of player injuries.

Wawrinka, the three-time Grand Slam champion, has now criticized the organization on Twitter for forcing the players to use four different balls during the previous four weeks of play.

Wawrinka shared images of the four different sets of balls and wrote: “4 weeks, 4 different balls. When are the tournaments going to listen to players?”

The Swiss continued to express his shock at the state of affairs following several player complaints. He added: “Can’t believe in 2023 it’s still happening! @atptour.”
