Djokovic triumphs in Wimbledon!

Novak Djokovic wins his 3rd Wimbledon (9th slam) after beating Federer in 4 sets.

The final wasn’t that great with both players struggling with their tennis from the very beginning. Djokovic’s shots were frequently short (very short) and Federer was completely unable to take advantage of this (Roger’s tennis was miles away from the one he displayed against Murray).

Roger squandered a great opportunity is the first set. In fact, the Swiss Maestro broke Nole in the 6th game (4-2) with the Serbian in constant struggle and Roger in full control. Incredibly enough the Swiss played a lousy game soon after to give the break back to Nole (???). The set went to the tiebreak that Djokovic won at 1 (and Federer went in the “cloud”).

The second set was the most interesting one and it was decided at a dramatic tie-break (probably the most intense moment if the match). After passionate rallies and huge “drama”, Federer saved 7 set points (!!!) to win the tiebreak at 10.

Things got really weird in the 3rd set. Djokovic looked demolished from a mental point of view after losing the 2nd set and Roger seemed to be in absolute control of the situation with the entire crowd backing (a lot!) the Swiss. All of the sudden the Maestro dropped his serve in the 3rd game (1-2) and from that moment on his tennis went dramatically south.  Djokovic didn’t need to raise his level that much to win the 3rd and 4th set without much trouble. The final score was 7-6 (1) 6-7 (10) 6-4 6-3. Match Stats.

Djokovic: It’s a privilege to play Roger

Nole commented “It’s a great privilege to play against Roger, who is a great champion. He has done so much for our sport on and off the court. It’s a great honour to play him again. I was aware coming onto the court, that Roger would play his best when it matters the most. He pushes you to limits.”

Federer: Novak deserved that

Roger was still happy with his tournament “Novak not only played great today, but also this year, last year and the year before that! Well done, Novak, you deserved it. At the end he was rock solid. I didn’t play bad myself, so I can be very happy. That’s the way it goes. Once more, it has been a privilege to play here.”
