Coco Gauff reflects on loss to Iga Swiatek in Beijing semifinal

Coco Gauff discusses her Beijing loss to Iga Swiatek, citing Swiatek's aggressive play and a shoulder injury, focusing on recovery and the upcoming WTA Finals in Cancun.

Coco Gauff Reflects On Loss To Iga Swiatek In Beijing Semifinal

Coco Gauff, the 19-year-old American tennis sensation, shared her insights on her recent match against Iga Swiatek in Beijing, highlighting the differences between their showdowns in Cincinnati and the Chinese capital. Gauff’s comments came after Swiatek avenged her Cincinnati defeat by defeating Gauff 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinal of the Beijing tournament.

In August, Gauff had secured her first victory over Swiatek, overcoming her in a thrilling Cincinnati semifinal with a score of 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4. However, their most recent encounter in Beijing unfolded differently.

Gauff observed, “I think she played a little bit more aggressive or, like, consistently aggressive compared to Cincinnati. I think Cincinnati I got a little bit more errors than today.” She acknowledged that assessing the match was challenging at the moment, as her focus during the game was primarily on managing physical discomfort rather than analyzing tactics.

During their Beijing clash, Gauff experienced shoulder issues and required a medical timeout, which further complicated her performance. She remarked, “I had the feeling when I called the physio it was going to be a tough match for me to try to be able to win.

Despite her setback in Beijing, Gauff had initially planned to compete at the WTA 500 event in Zhengzhou. However, her shoulder injury prompted a change of plans, and she decided to skip the tournament to prioritize her recovery.

Looking ahead, Coco Gauff is setting her sights on the WTA Finals, scheduled to take place between October 29 and November 05 in Cancun. This will mark her second consecutive appearance at the prestigious tournament, and she aims to make a strong impression on the international tennis stage.

As Gauff continues her promising career, fans around the world eagerly anticipate her future matches and the exciting competition she brings to the court.
