Tennis player from Argentina, Marco Trungelliti recently recalled how players like Novak Djokovic came up with match-fixing reports while openly admitting the pressure he faced from his fellow players after doing so.

Three of Marco Trungelliti’s peers, Patricio Heras, Nicolas Kicker, and Federico Coria, received suspensions due to his voluntary reporting of match-fixing attempts in 2018.

The tennis community abandoned the Argentine after his attestations, and he only had a handful of supporters, notably John McEnroe and Darren Cahill. Due to his role as a whistleblower, he and his family also received death threats. Trungelliti also disclosed how he turned down a match-fixing payoff a year later.

The 33-year-old was honest about the effects of his confession during an interview. Even though the offenders were dealt with, he said that it impacted him. He shared his thoughts and said: “It hurt me a lot. It was a deep pain because of who I was. What I said was fulfilled and everything remained the same.”

Trungelliti added that other people besides himself have come forward with information on match-fixing. He recalled Novak Djokovic sharing similar information in 2016 about being allegedly given $200,000 for losing in the first round. Djokovic rejected the offer, calling it an act of unprofessional conduct and a crime in sport.

He pointed out the former tennis player from Ukraine, Sergiy Stakhovsky, who later apologized for originally condemning the Argentine for humiliating his teammates. Trungelliti further added: “Djokovic said he had been offered match-fixing. Sergiy Stakhovsky, who had called me a snitch, later came out to say that he was also offered. It’s like everything fell into place, but it broke me, basically, because I didn’t expect it.”
