Tomic suspended from Davis Cup

A couple of days ago Bernard Tomic surprised everybody with an (unnecessary) attack to Tennis Australia to aim his rant especially to Craig Tyley.

Tomic: I have problems with the Tennis Australia group

Bernard commented “Personally inside it’s been very difficult for me the last year or so in the Tennis Australia group. People think I’m at war with Pat Rafter. It’s not true. Pat is a nice guy.

If the Australian public don’t know Pat, he’s a good actor, he’s well spoken, always prepared and knows what to say. He’s prepped by Tennis Australia to know what to say.

He’s always ready to fire back questions that we answer to. Behind that, I think [I’m] very disappointed in Craig Tiley in Tennis Australia.

He’s the reason the last few years [have] been up and down for me. There has been a lack of support towards me. There has been no respect, I think, towards me. It’s been difficult.”

Tennis Australia Reaction

Tennis Australia wasn’t impressed with Tomic’s remarks to tweet its disappointment “TA remains committed to implementing the best culture possible, with a philosophy of opportunity, not entitlement” and “Bernard #Tomic post-match allegations about TA were misinformed, untrue & disappointing”

After that Tennis Australia decided to suspend Tomic from the team and Steve Healy, Tennis Australia president, came out with the following statement “His behaviour was unacceptable. Playing for our country is an absolute privilege, and with that privilege comes an obligation to behave appropriately. He didn’t.

The allegations are misinformed and untrue and he publicly derided some outstanding people. We are trying to build a strong culture underpinned by a philosophy of opportunity, not entitlement. This stuff is just not on.

Hopefully he will learn from this. Our entire tennis community is committed to working hard to help all our players, including Bernard, be the best tennis players, and the best people, they can be.”

In truth, it’s very difficult to see Tennis Australia as a weak organization and it is still difficult to understand what was in Tomic’s head during his rant.

The suspension

So Tomic will not play the upcoming Davis Cup quarters against Kazakhstan. We can’t see he back any soon with the Australian Team.
