It takes 7 matches to win a slam from the main draw. Jil Teichmann had to win 8 contests to finally conquer her maiden title in Prague where she commenced her run from the qualifications.
Before Prague, the 21-year-old used to have a 2-6 win-loss record in 2019 to completely turn the table and record a better 10-6 record. In 8 matches, Jil conceded only 2 sets.
Teichmann won the final against home favorite Karolina Muchova 7-6 (5) 3-6 6-4.
“It was a great battle”
After the match, Jil commented
“I’m just speechless, honestly. I just fought and fought. It was a great battle and I’m just relieved that it’s done. I’m exhausted, but Kaja played a great match as well. I knew it was going to be a battle, but in the end, one has to win.”
After this win, Teichmann will go up 59 places in the rankings to break in the top100 and achieve world no.87 career high.
