Bencic wins 1st career title!

Finally Belinda Bencic!

18-year-old Belinda Bencic wins her 1st career title after edging Agnieszka Radwanska in the final 6-4 4-6 6-0.

Belinda was in firm control of the match to struggle just in the 1st part of the second set when she was a bit too relaxed to win just 1 point in the first 3 games (0-3 for Radwanska). Then the Swiss recovered in the second part of the set, but eventually Radwanska managed to bring the match to the decider.  In the third set the Pole imploded completely especially in the second half after being 0-3 down and Belinda finally won the match with a bagel (6-0). Match Stats.

Bencic: I was playing freely

Belinda commented “The match started very well for me, actually. I was very focused and I really played very freely. Of course I was disappointed I didn’t close out the second set, and I was also starting to get a little tired – it was a lot of running out there, and we had some long rallies out there too.

But I was very focused in the third set, and after 3-0 I relaxed a little bit and closed it out well.”

Belinda will now head to Wimbledon where she will play Pironkova in the opener. In the mean time… time to enjoy her (very) first title. Much, much more to come.
