Roger Federer is about to come back on clay and he has great chances to gain 1 place in the rankings and be the new world no.3 after playing in Madrid.
Federer and Zverev’s rankings
The Swiss Maestro has only 180 points less than the world no.3 Alexander Zverev, but the German has to defend a lot of points in the near future since last year he won Munich (250pts), Madrid (1000pts), and reached the final in Rome (600pts) while Federer has no points to defend since he didn’t play during the clay court season.
The Swiss will become world no.3 already after this week in the improbable case that Zverev loses his next match in Munich against the world no. 47 Christian Garin.
How Federer can be world no.3 after Madrid
Even if Zverev defends his title in Munich, if the German doesn’t win again the title in Madrid or Roger reaches the quarters in Spain, Federer will be ranked no.3.
More to come.
