Gutsy stuff from Novak Djokovic.
Yesterday the Serb was unlucky as the rain stopped his match against Murray when Nole gained a sort of momentum. Today the match restarted from a 6-3 6-3 5-7 3-3 score-line and Murray was in no mood to give anything for free to his opponent. Andy had a great “restart” to win the 4th set 7-5, but Nole showed to be the uncontested world no.1 with his composure. Djokovic didn’t lose the temper to cruise in the fifth set and win 6-3 6-3 5-7 5-7 6-1.
From Djokovic
Nole commented “I don’t think I was lucky. I think I was playing some great tennis yesterday. He found his game late in the third. I had many opportunities to finish the match in straight sets, but credit to Andy.
He showed why he’s one of the biggest competitors and fighters on the tour. A bit different conditions, with sun and then later in the evening it got a bit slower. He was using his variety in the game very well.
It was a really tough match, over four hours all together, yesterday and today. No different from any other match that we played against each other. It’s always a thriller, always a marathon. He just came up with some great shots, great points. I want to congratulate him for a great tournament and a great fight, and I wish him all the best.”
The final vs. Wawrinka
Nole will play the final against Wawrinka. Head to head is 18-3 for the Serbian (5-1 on clay), but in the last 4 best of 5 matches Wawrinka ha always brought Nole to the 5th. Our prediction is Djokovic in 4.
