Ben Shelton is becoming more and more of a trendsetter with his trademark celebration. The Italian player was quite disappointed for not being part of the Italian team in the upcoming Davis Cup tie.
Fabio Fognini imitated Shelton’s celebration to criticize Italy’s Team Captain, Filippo Volandri, for not selecting him for the Davis Cup. Fognini had first been called up, but Volandri ultimately chose to swap him out for Vavassori, who was viewed as being “more reliable.” Due to their health issues, Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini were also replaced by Lorenzo Sonego and Matteo Arnaldi.

LLWWLLLWWL Ranked no.131, Fabio played his last match on the 10th of September when he surrendered to world no.76 Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-2 7-6(3) in the final of the Genova Challenger (draw).
Currently, during this season the Italian achieved a compiled 16-16 win-loss record. Fabio Fognini’s latest run in the Genova Challenger was the best achievement of his season.

Ranked world no.19 (career-high), Shelton played his last match on the 8th of September when he capitulated to world no.1 Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-2 7-6(4) in the semifinal of the U.S. Open (draw).
Until now, during this year Ben has a compiled 19-23 match record. Ben Shelton’s best achievement of the present season was getting to the semifinal in the Cagliari Challenger and at the U.S. Open.
