Daniil Medvedev reveals the use of ‘pirate websites’ and bears the risk of offending US Open officials

Daniil Medvedev, a Russian tennis player, admitted to watching tennis content illegally and criticized the lack of US Open matches on television.

Medvedev About Illegal Websites

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev acknowledged illegally streaming events, and the former Grand Slam champion criticized the lack of US Open matches on TV.

The 27-year-old, who lost just two sets in the previous four rounds, will play eighth-seeded Andrey Rublev in the US Open quarterfinal on September 6. However, Medvedev acknowledged that he had to find a way to watch tennis due to it not being easily available when asked whether he would be keeping an eye on other matches at the US Open. By finding a way, Medvedev refers to using what he terms ‘pirate websites’ which are forbidden.

Medvedev discussed it during an interview and stated: “I guess in a lot of hotels they have Spectrum. I cannot watch it on TV anymore. I don’t know if it’s legal or illegal, but I have to find a way because I cannot watch it on TV. I got Internet, probably this, as you call it, pirate websites, I watch tennis there. I have no other choice.”

Tennis fans appear to be backing Medvedev on this matter, despite the possibility that his confession will get him into trouble with the US Open or tennis officials. One fan commented on the issues of broadcasting and wrote: “There’s never a clear info about tennis matches broadcast. Thanks for speaking it as it is, Daniil.”

Another one commented: “Professional tennis players of all people are having to pirate tennis streams to watch. That’s how broken and bad of a user experience tennis broadcasting is.”
