Bad day for Maria Sharapova that crashes out in the 4th round of the Roland Garros.
The defending champion that the tough task to face an in-form Safarova that when she is able to play her best tennis is able to beat everyone.
The match was absolutely even, but eventually Maria couldn’t find the solution to capitulate 7-6(3), 6-4.
Sharapova: She was the aggressor
Maria admitted that Lucie was the better player “I feel like I had small openings, and I just wasn’t able to play a good few points. I just wasn’t able to keep that level up today. She was able to do that for a longer period of time. She was the much more aggressive player, took the time away from me, created her angles and I didn’t.
That was the difference today, in my opinion. My opponent was at a much higher level than I was and more consistently than I was, and that results in a bad day at the office. It was just a tough day.”
This is the second time that Safarova defeats a world no.2 after beating Justin Henin 8 years ago also in Paris (but indoor).
