At the US Open, John Isner’s final post-match press conference left him in tears. His career as a singles professional tennis player was over after a defeat in the second round of the US Open.
Isner put up an impressive performance against fellow countryman Michael Mmoh in his final singles match but went down losing by 3-6 4-6 7-6(3) 6-4 7-6(7).
After playing in his final US Open match, Isner was clearly disappointed with the result but also relieved.
Isner expressed his thoughts after the match in the press conference and said: “It’s a range of emotions. There’s, of course, a lot of disappointment with the result of my singles match today, but at the same time a lot of gratitude, as well, just to have one last time playing in an atmosphere like that.”
Isner got into tears during the conference and said: “I wanted one more US Open and was able to get that, so… It was a fun match overall. Of course, the result is disappointing, but I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in my career.”
John Isner was crying in his final press conference:
“Tennis has been a huge part of my life. It’s tough to say goodbye. Eventually this day would come. It’s hard to prepare for the emotions. Most importantly, I have an amazing life. I look forward to every second of that”… pic.twitter.com/cPGTY0F1qj
