We had a big controversy recently with Nadal asking for an umpire (Bernardes) not to officiate anymore his matches.
The request came after some “quarrels” between the King of Clay and Carlos. The last one was after Bernardes gave a penalty to Rafa for a time violation.
Djokovic: I do not think it is fair
When asked about his opinion about banning umpires, Novak Djokovic was rather explicit “I never ever thought of something like that [banning an umpire for his matches]. Chair umpires are humans as well, and they too make mistakes. May be they are also sometimes not quite confident when they make certain calls and they are also required to strongly participate in the match; they need focus and attention on surfaces which don’t leave marks like clay, and you have to make certain calls.
I don’t think that’s fair and they do their jobs as best as they can, and of course sometimes they do it better and sometimes worse,”
