At the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati on August 19, Coco Gauff finally broke her streak of losing sets to Iga Siwatek by taking her first-ever match against the Pole.

Swiatek was the clear favorite to go to her first final in Cincinnati when the two players faced off in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000-level competition. But Gauff had other ideas.

Swiatek had defeated Gauff in 14 straight sets before this match. After ending the run, the American was fired up and roared in joy as she for the first time ever gained the lead over the World No. 1.

Before Cincinnati, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff faced off seven times on the WTA Tour. At the 2021 Italian Open, Swiatek defeated Gauff 6-7, 6-3 in their first encounter.
