Federer wins strange match against Anderson

Strange stuff in Rome.

Roger Federer was having a great match against Kevin Anderson (that was also quite unconfortable on clay). The Swiss got an easy and smooth 6-3 5-2 40-15 lead to unexpicably implode on his 2 match points. Roger lost 5 consecutive games to lose his serve. After Kevin held his serve (5-4 for Roger), the Swiss went to serve for the match for the second time to have another sloppy game and be broken again (5-5). The funny stuff is that, apart for a couple of shots, Anderson didn’t do much, it was just Federer that lost it. The Maestro was then lucky that Kevin had another mediocre game to be broken again (6-5 for Roger) and eventually the world no.2 held his serve to win 6-3 7-5 after 76minutes. Match Stats.

Roger: I had a good start in both sets

The result “should have been” 6-3 6-2 if Roger didn’t have his “melting stint& in the second set, but the Maestro was still happy with his performance “I had to adjust and react differently in today’s match than yesterday’s match. It was so different, because it’s Kevin and his amazing serve. There’s only so much you can do on the return games. The first thing was not to get frustrated, because I was not seeing where he was serving.

But thankfully, I got off to a really good start in both sets. From then on, I could relax almost. I was able to break him four times, which was a really good effort in the quick conditions here in Rome.”

Next vs. Berdych

Roger will play a tired Tomas Berdych in the quarters. The Czech has defeated Fognini 6-3 3-6 7-6 (2) in 2 hours and 34 minutes. Head to head is 13-6 for Roger (3-0 for the Swiss on clay)

Head to head Federer Berdych
