INJURY. Denis Shapovalov withdraws from the US Open

Denis Shapovalov is no longer competing in the U.S. Open. On Wednesday, the tennis player posted the breaking news on social media.

Shapovalov has withdrawn from the U.S. Open. The tennis player shared the news on social media on Wednesday.

Shapovalov said that while he had done everything in his power to stay healthy for the Grand Slam match, his knee injury still needs more time to heal. Due to the same issue, the 24-year-old withdrew from the most recent National Bank Open in Toronto.

Shapovalov hasn’t competed since July 9, when he was defeated by Roman Safiullin at Wimbledon in the fourth round. His best Grand Slam performance there two years prior was reaching the semifinals.

The quarterfinals of the 2020 U.S. Open were Shapovalov’s finest performance there. He rose as high as No. 10 in the world rankings before falling to No. 22 at the moment.

At the moment ranked no.22, Denis played his last match on the 9th of July when he surrendered to world no.63 Roman Safiullin 3-6 6-3 6-1 6-3 in the 4th round in Wimbledon (draw).

Presently, during this year the Canadian owns a composed 13-13 record.

He is also scheduled to play in Shanghai (Shanghai Rolex Masters) on the 2nd of October and Paris (Rolex Paris Masters) on the 30th of October.
