Before retiring, Gael Monfils has kept the door open for the prospect of playing mixed doubles with his wife Elina Svitolina. Before tying the knot in 2021, Monfils and Svitolina dated each other for a few years.
Playing mixed doubles together is a common trend among tennis partners. However, surprisingly, Monfils and Svitolina have yet to face off against each other in a match.
Monfils expressed his thoughts during a conversation and said: “You know, why not play once a mixed double? Why not? But the thing is you know, it’s tough for me to play singles and doubles. But I feel like when it will be the end, I will try to double up. And hopefully, it’s not next year.”
In July, while Svitolina was competing in a strong Wimbledon run, Monfils stayed at home and looked after his daughter Skai.
