Carlos Alcaraz Meets Gael Monfils

Carlos Alcaraz is on course to become “a legend” in the sport, according to Gael Monfils. After working out alongside the top-ranked player in the world at the National Bank Canadian Open in Toronto, Monfils shared these remarks.

Gael Monfils heaps praises for Alcaraz after he made history at Wimbledon against the legend Novak Djokovic on July 16. At the ATP Masters 1000 competition, Monfils and Alcaraz have each had success so far.

likewise, Monfils has now publicly acknowledged the talented young athlete and expressed confidence in his future as a sportsperson. During a conversation, Monfils expressed his words for Alcaraz and said: “Carlos is a great guy. Obviously, a great kid. You know, he’s the beginning of a big legend of tennis, you know. I think definitely a champion already, the tennis, you know. I think definitely a champion already, but it’s — I think his goal is to become a legend like those legends that we have in our game.”

He further added: “I think every player wants to become a champion, legend, whatever. He’s already the champion, you know. When you’re champion, for me, when you win slams, and he already won slams. And I think he stated already that he wants to win a lot of Grand Slams. So I feel like he’s on a track to win the number for him to become a legend.”

In their careers so far, the two players have only crossed paths once. They did share the court once again during a practice session in Toronto when Monfils was able to see the 20-year-old’s skills even more clearly.
