At the Citi Open, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will not participate in any doubles matches together. In the doubles circuit, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff teamed up to win five WTA titles. They also reached the doubles championship in the 2022 French Open.
As a result of their title wins, they have now climbed into the top 10 in doubles. Tennis doubles still lag behind singles in popularity despite their accomplishments. The two decided against competing in doubles but entered the 500-event on both tours’ combined singles tournament.
Pegula outlined her strategy for competitions and singles matches and the reason behind not playing with Gauff in doubles. She said in an interview: “Yeah, I think we kind of made that decision just knowing the weather here, the heat, and doubling up in a short week before Montreal is really tough.”
She asserted that she doesn’t focus much on the results of particular games because anyone might have a bad day. Pegula explained that she focuses more on the small gains in gameplay made at each tournament.

Ranked world no.4, Jessica played her last match on the 11th of July when she was defeated by world no.10 Marketa Vondrousova 6-4 2-6 6-4 in the quarter in Wimbledon (draw).
Currently, during this year Pegula achieved a compiled 35-12 win-loss record. The American clinched 1 title in Australia. Pegula was the runner-up in Doha.
Gauff in Washington, ranking, and results in 2023
LWWWLWWLWW Now ranked no.7, Gauff has managed to achieve an overall 28-12 match record in 2023. Gauff is competing in Washington where she defeated the world no.204 Hailey Baptiste 6-1 6-4.
Coco Gauff will take on the world no.15 Belinda Bencic in the quarter. Their actual record is 1-0 for Bencic.
The American clinched 1 title in 2023 in Auckland.
She is also scheduled to play at the U.S. Open (U.S. Open) after Montreal. The main draw will start on the 7th of August.
Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff clashed against each other only twice. Their current record is 1-1. The last time they fought against each other, Coco Gauff won 6-3 6-3 in the quarter in Eastbourne (Rothesay International) on the 29th of June 2023.
