Fantastic stuff from Denis Shapovalov that wins a high-quality match against Stefanos Tsitspas in the 4th round of the Miami Open.
How Shapovalov defeated Tsitsipas
Stefanos was the favorite ahead of their match and it seemed that his tennis was more solid at least for the 1st set when the Greek won the first set 6-4.
However, something got broken in Tsitsipas’ serve in the second set and Denis got full advantage to grab a 5-1 lead. The Greek managed to break Shapovalov in the 7th game (5-2) before holding his serve (5-3), but that was too late and Shapovalov won the second set 6-3.
Shapovalov and Tsitsipas were perfect on serve in the decider to concede no break points and therefore the battle had to be decided in the breaker. Shapovalov conquered a strong 3-0 lead, but later he dropped the next 3 points (and the last one on a double fault). At that point, it seemed as Tsitsipas had the momentum to win the match. Nevertheless, it was Shapovalov to rise to the occasion and win the following 4 points and the match. The final score was 4-6 6-3 7-6 (3) and the contest ended after 2 hours and 14 minutes.
