Kyrgios And Medvedev Will Not Play In Washington

The third-ranked player in the world, Daniil Medvedev, and Australian Nick Kyrgios have pulled out of the U.S. Open warm-up event in Washington due to injuries, according to organizers on Wednesday.

Medvedev, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, had five titles this year, including victories in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai, Miami, and Rome. The 27-year-old Russian lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semifinals earlier this month.

With knee, foot, and wrist problems, defending Washington champion Kyrgios has missed every Grand Slam this year. He played only one match, and that was at the Stuttgart Open in June, where he was defeated in straight sets.

After defeating Medvedev in the championship match, the 28-year-old also captured the Washington crown in 2019.
