MIAMI OPEN. Angelique Kerber had a rather nightmarish 3rd round in Miami on Saturday when she lost the match (and the face) against 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu.
The “Drama Queen” controversy
After a hard fought match, the former world no.1 had to bow to a fantastic Andreescu that defeated her for the second time in 6 days. Angelique stunned the tennis community after she insulted the Canadian at the net saying βYouβre the biggest drama queen ever.β

It was completely unexpected that a 31-year-old and 3-slam champion treated like that an upcoming player.Β That caused an uproar among the tennis fans (and beyond).
The congratulations from Angelique Kerber
On Sunday morning, Angelique sent her public congratulations to Bianca that sounded to the most like a (failed) PR exercise to limit the damage. Actually, it seems that it caused even more damage to Angelique’s image given the comments on social media.
A public apology would have been a better choice. Messy. Probably time to move on.
Tough battle out there last night @miamiopen! Congrats to Bianca @Bandreescu_ for a great performance and a well deserved win. π pic.twitter.com/IpXzAJRNpi
