Naomi Osaka is elated with the fact that her sister Mari had the opportunity to access the main draw of the Miami Open thanks to a wild card.
Despite her low rank (336) and the fact that she still needs to win a match in a WTA main draw, the world no.1 is convinced that Mari has still great potential.
“Up until I was 15, she was 6-0ing me, like ridiculous! I don’t know what happened – something finally clicked in my head – but for sure she was beating me. In the win-loss category, she’s still up by a million.”
Then Naomi added that her sister still needs to get used to the tour to comment
“She’s made a few newbie mistakes. Yesterday, it rained all day, but she came here at 11 AM and her match was fourth on. I was like, ‘What are you doing?’ I have to talk to her about that.”
Finally, Osaka expressed her happiness for having Mari with her in Miami to comment
“It’s interesting because you can give each other advice, especially if you know who they’re playing. It’s just more of a booster, because most of the time, we’re not playing the same tournaments, so it’s really enjoyable to have her here.”
Mari still needs to play her first round against Whitney Osuigwe since her match has been postponed a couple of times because of the weather. She is now scheduled to play on Thursday on court 6, the second match in the morning.
