Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger Aliassime are great friends, and they always back each other.
Felix has been enjoying huge results during the last few weeks after he reached the final at the ATP500 in Rio de Janeiro and the quarters in Sao Paulo. The young Canadian wasn’t done with that, and he managed to surprise the newly minted world no.10 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2nd round in Indian Wells playing fantastic tennis with a straightforward 6-4 6-2.
Denis also had a good straight-sets win in his opening match in the desert after he defeated Steve Johnson 6-3 6-4 and fellow Canadian Bianca Andreescu stormed in the 4th round in Indian Wells after dismissing Stefanie Voegele 6-1 6-2.
I am not surprised by Auger Aliassime’s results. SHAPOVALOV
After his match, Denis was asked about the performance of his “buddy” Felix and Bianca. Denis commented
“It’s unbelievable. Obviously for Felix to obtain a top10 win [was great]. I was so pumped. I also asked my team ‘did they just finish?’ It was so quick. He really just outplayed Stefanos [Tsitsipas] for what I saw.
I was very happy for him. I gave a big hug, but to be honest, I am not shocked. It was just a matter of time until Felix and Bianca (Andreescu) would show up. Both had unbelievable games in the juniors. I grew up with both, and I knew the potential they had, and I knew it was a matter of time that there are going to have these big results.
I hope we can keep going like this to make tennis a really big sport in Canada.”
