Amanda Anisimova and Elise Mertens will clash in the 2nd round in Indian Wells.
Anisimova
Ranked no.67, Amanda had a fantastic run last year in Indian Wells where she reached the 4th round after beating Petra Kvitova on the way (and Amanda was just 16). The young American had already a couple of good runs in 2019 after she reached the quarters in Auckland and the 4th round at the Australian Open. Amanda was utterly impressive in her first round in Indian Wells after she dismissed Aleksandra Krunic 6-0 6-4.
Mertens
Ranked no.16, Elise is having a very strong 2019 after she won her 5th career title in Doha after she defeated Simona Halep in the final.

Anisimova and Mertens have never played each other so far. However, even if the Belgian has a much better rank than the American, it would not be a surprise if Anisimova would be the winner.
