Andy Murray unsettled by Nottingham tragedy

Andy Murray talked about his feelings after the tragedy that struck Nottingham

After the “heartbreaking” incident in the city center overnight, Andy Murray said he was unsure if play would continue at the Rothesay Nottingham Open. A Tuesday morning incident left three individuals dead and three more hospitalized, and a large portion of the neighborhood was blocked off.

Play did proceed as scheduled, and Murray, fresh off his triumph at Surbiton last week, started his ATP Challenger Tour campaign with a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 victory over Belgian underdog Joris De Loore. Murray, who went out to eat near the scene of the attacks in Nottingham, claimed that the situation was “far more important than tennis.”

The British player commented:

“It was obviously shocking when I woke up this morning and when I was going down to breakfast a few messages on our team chat came up. We are staying in the city centre and had been out for dinner last night and walking around those areas. You never expect something like that to happen, it was really shocking.”
