Martina Navratilova is a tennis legend not only for the results she has achieved but also for her interesting personality.
As a lesbian, many may have thought that Martina would have endorsed blindly transgenders in sport, however, she shared a compelling view about why a male transgender should not be allowed competing as a woman.
When righting for the Sunday Times in London, Martina explained her view to write
“Simply reducing hormone levels, the prescription most sports have adopted, does not solve the problem. A man builds up muscle and bone density, as well as a greater number of oxygen-carrying red blood cells, from childhood. Training increases the discrepancy. Indeed, if a male were to change gender in such a way as to eliminate any accumulated advantage, he would have to begin hormone treatment before puberty. For me, that is unthinkable.”
Is Navratilova transphobic?
It is interesting to notice that Martina, that declared back in 1981 that she was a lesbian, has been labeled as transphobic for her view, but… you can’t argue against her view , can you?
