Serena survives a scare, than she trashes Zvonareva

When we see Serena’s matches we often have the idea that the final result depends on how good is the American regardless of who is on the other side of the net. Apparently that is what happened today.

Serena was struggling in the first set against former world no.2 Vera Zvonareva. She was 3-5 15-40 down to save 2 set points, find her groove and win 10 consecutive games. The final score was a telling 7-5 6-0.

Serena: Things clicked

The American commented “Yeah, things really clicked. I had no other option but for things to click. I just had to start playing better. That’s one thing about the Grand Slams. You have to be ready for anyone at any stage. And playing Vera is like, I had to get my mind like, ‘Serena, this girl has been ranked as high as No.2 in the world, she’s been on the tour and she’s a very quality player, she knows what to do. She knows how to win.’ So I had to kind of snap into that kind of mentality on the court today.”

Next vs. Svitolina

Serena will play the 3rd round against world no. 26 Elina Svitolina. Head to Head is 1-0 for Serena, but Svitolina can be a tricky customer.
