Denis Shapovalov starts his Montpellier campaign with a good straight-sets win over Marcel Granollers.
The match
The young Canadian can be particularly happy with his performance also because his opponent looked to be in great form. Therefore, this was one of those matches that are decided by details or small moments. In fact, the only difference between Denis and Marcel in the first set was a break in the 10th game after the Spaniard wasn’t able to hold his serve even if he had a 40-15 lead.
The second set went straight to the breaker as both players were too good on their serve. Eventually, the Canadian managed to hold his nerves and win the match 6-4 7-6 (1). The match ended after just 82 minutes.

After the match, Denis commented
“Today was a really good match. I think we were both serving well. It was tough to get a rhythm, but I’m very happy how I managed to play at the end.”
The Canadian will face either Ilya Ivhaska or Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the quarters.
