Nishikori wins tough test against Thompson

Kei Nishikori is preparing his Australian Open at the Kooyong Classic and he has already endured a tough test. The world no.5 had a tricky win against world no. 273 Jordan Thompson from Australia with the score of 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7/4).

Conditions made it tough

Kei was happy to have tested the tough conditions in Melbourne (that’s why he is playing this competition) to comment “Conditions made it tough to play.  It was difficult for me to be aggressive. But I played a good tiebreak and I’m happy to win today.  I had a good start here last year. I did well last season. I’m coming in with a lot of confidence. I’ve had good off-season training and hopefully I can have another good season. Jordan was playing well, especially in the second set, he was not missing much and going for his shots,”

Last year Key has reached the 4th round in Melbourne after losing to Rafael Nadal. This year he is expected to go further than that.
