Stefanos Tsitsipas keeps on having a great run at the Australian Open.
The upcoming Greek defeats Nikoloz Basilashvili after a tough 4-setter that will put Stefanos in the 4th round where he is expected to play Roger Federer.
The match
Stefanos started the match extremely strong after he broke his opponent already in the 4th game of the opener (3-1). That was enough for the Greek to consolidate his lead (4-1) and win the 1st set 6-3.
Basilashvili came back strong and after holding a complicated 1st game in the 2nd set, the Georgian broke Stefanos in the second game (2-0) before winning the 2nd set 6-3.
A “big drama” happened in the 3rd set. In fact, when Stefanos conquered a strong 5-3 lead, Tsitsipas had a set point when serving on a A-40 scoreline and he won that point with a powerful serve. However, the linesman mistakenly called that serve out and the point had to be repeated. Stefanos couldn’t deal with that and eventually, he lost that point to be broken. Nevertheless, the world no.15 managed to calm his nerves to win an extremely tough tiebreak after saving a set point when he was 5-6 down.
The 4th set was much “easier” for Stefanos as Basilashvili was struggling with a foot injury. Eventually, the Greek ended up winning the match 6-3 3-6 7-6 6-4 after 2 hours and 54 minutes.
