Paula Badosa is a well-known player on the WTA tour who has won three WTA 1000 titles. However, the Spanish tennis player suffered an abductor injury at the beginning of the season, forcing her to withdraw from a number of competitions. Her standings were also severely impacted, as she was knocked out of the top positions on the women’s circuit.
Badosa vs. Coco Gauff
The former No. 2 player in the world is back and ready to take on the rigors of the Madrid Open. In front of her local supporters, Badosa defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto to win the opening match of the competition, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. She will face the sixth-seeded player in the competition, Coco Gauff, in the following round.
Badosa will compete as the underdog considering her present rank in the women’s circuit even if she is playing on home soil. The current world No. 42 was questioned about her thinking prior to playing the higher-ranked player after taking note of the same. Badosa said that she is already aware that this is a “very high-level” match given the skill of the American tennis prodigy.
“Maybe I hope she doesn’t serve that well. I hope I serve very well. It’s small details these kind of matches. Yeah, let’s see how it goes.”
Paula Badosa and Coco Gauff squared off 3 times. The head to head is 2-1 for Badosa. The last time they squared off, Paula Badosa won 7-6(4) 6-2 in the quarter in San Jose (Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic) in August 2022.
